Dunbarton Oaks Museum Music Room
This Georgetown project involved restoring and preserving a wooden coiffered ceiling with a long history of water damage.
The painted wooden ceiling had been restored at three different times since it creation in 1930.
We were able to determine all of the decorative patterns with the exception of one of the central figures.
30% of the small beams were fully restored while the other 70% were able to be conserved and inpainted.
The majority of the larger beams were damaged beyond repair from unsightly overpaint and an unstable ground layer and thus were repainted.
